Victoria Sketch

This is a pencil and chalk sketch of Victoria, a great woman taken from the world much too soon.  She was a great friend of our family.  She will be sorely missed.

Lake Hiawatha painting

This is a Holiday painting for my Dad. I have many happy childhood memories of fishing at this northern Colorado lake near Red Feather Lakes, Colorado.  The sunsets over the lake were almost as good as the fishing.

La Jolla Beach Commissions finished

I finished and shipped my La Jolla Beach commission.  This is an oil painting 11 x 14 inches and was a fun challenge of waves and blues.

Solomon's Island Bridge Plein Air

This is a small Plein Air study I did from the Pier Restaurant at Solomon's Island looking west to the sunset.  It finally dried enough to put it on the scanner.  It was a fun one and a bit of a challenge.  It came out decent for the time I had to get it down.

Drum Point Lighthouse Cupola

This is a block in for a nocturne (night time) oil painting of the Drum Point Lighthouse at Calvert County Maritime Museum.  The Drum Point Lighthouse was pulled off the its location and not resides at the museum.  This painting will need some highlights and some tweaks to complete but it is a great start.

Ocracoke Lighthouse

This is an oil painting of the Ocracoke Lighthouse on Ocracoke Island in North Carolina.  It is a smaller lighthouse near the small harbor on the island.  It is well worth the ferry ride to the island. Just don't go in summer as the crowds are bad.

Turkey Early

I have been working on this for a bit.  I am mostly done with this Turkey and it is almost ready for next week's Thanksgiving Day.

Michigan City Indiana Lighthouse

This is a large studio painting of the sunset at the Michigan City Indiana Lighthouse.  This is based off a photo, notes and the plein air sketch I did of the structure.  This is 90% done, I will probably make some small tweaks to this one, but it is done.

Plein Air - Skyline Drive

This is a Plein Air painting from a couple of weeks ago.  It has dried enough to scan it.  I struggled with getting the difference between the greens and the oranges of the changing foliage.  Still a lot of work to get it down.

La Jolla California Block in

This is a commission I am working on.  It is a a beach scene near La Jolla California and I doing this in oils.  I need to fix my cliff area and make some adjustments but it is getting close to being done.

Skyline Drive Plein Air Virginia

This is one of two paintings I did today while out Plein Air painting in Virginia.  this is on Skyline Drive in Virginia.  It is part of the Blue ridge National Park.  I did this in about two hours in oil paint.

Plein Air on the Bay - Bay Bridge from Kent Island

I took a road trip with the wife and I finished up at Hemingway's Restaurant looking west at Annapolis and the Bay Bridge.  This is a small 5 x 7 canvas done in oil paint.

Dairy Barn and Silo

This is the latest oil painting block-in.  This is a Dairy Barn and Silo with cast shadows.  It will need some work to fix a few things but it is a decent start.

The Sheds - Block-in

I have been working on the oil painting skills.   This is Ala Prima, which is just one go at it.  It was about two hours of work.  I will probably go back and fix the tree trunk on the left, but not bad for one hit of painting.  This is a 9 x 12 inches.

Still Life Flowers and jars

I have been trying to do larger oil paintings.  This is the second still Life I have started.  This is the block in of the basic colors and shapes.  This will need some tweaks now the basics are in.This is 11 x 14 inches, so larger than a lot of paintings I have done in the past.  I have a little more time now.  I will have a lot more time in August after retiring from the day job.

Father's Day Plein Air

Happy Father's Day, I went to Mayo Beach, Mayo, Maryland.  This is a small Plein Air painting in oil from the beach.  he platform is an Osprey nest .

Rhino and Ox pecker Bird

Happy Friday, this is an ink sketch of a rhino and an Ox Pecker bird.  The bird eats bugs and other things off the rhino so they are tolerated for their service.

Nite before D-Day aniversary

75 years ago tonight, the 82nd Airborne, 101st Airborne, and the 6th Airborne all took off from airfields in England and jumped into Normandy, France.   They started the invasion from the west and with the invasion of the Russians from the East, sealed the Nazis fate as ending.  So not an original piece but I thought it fitting for the anniversary.

Nikki Tugboat

This is an oil painting I have been working on recently. This is a Tugboat working the grain barge in Virginia on the Tappahannock River.   This is 9 x 12 oil on canvas.

Chickadees

Every now and then, I'll work on a series of birds, every time I do it reminds me of my Grandmother and how she turned me on to birds and watching them.  They are the easiest wildlife to watch and see every day.  This is an oil painting of a pair of Chickadees on Orange berry branches.

Osprey

I have been working on some oil paintings, which has been slow as I am not happy with how they are progressing.  I have also been working on some ink brush birds.  This is one I have finished up with markers to take care of this "Fish Eagle" as Ospreys seem to be to me.

Pen and Ink Donkey

Not too many of these left. I did a bunch of the donkeys and mules for a small book I gave my parents.  This is one of the last images.  I have been starting some oil paintings but none are ready to post yet.

Nanny Donkey

I have been working on a few oil paintings but they are not ready to post.  I sketched this Donkey out after hearing about these Donkeys from my parents.  Shepards use them to carry the lambs until they are big enough to travel with the flock on their own.  I had never heard of this before and I think it is a pretty brilliant way to take care of a problem and protect the lambs.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter, I don't know how a Donkey baby works for Easter, but it works for me.  This is part of the Donkey, Mule studies I did.  This was in colored markers.
