Grand Canyon Watchtower - block-in
I worked on this today, I bit of an experiment. I did a more detailed block-in, which will still need a lot of adjustment to make it a successful study in Oil paint. The sky and clouds are good but everything else is going to need attention and adjustment.

Beach Clouds
I have been working on this Beach Clouds for the last two nights. Tonight I think it has a better show of progress. I think i posted the block-in on this but I cannot find the first picture to post so you just get this one tonight. It is late and I need go to bed. You can probably scroll back and find it. This is a 9x12 oil and I am just working on the clouds, the edges between the various layers and the water surface.

Scottish highlands - Part Three
Tonight's post is the continuing work on the Scottish Highlands. I was not happy with the sky and I worked on it some to add depth and texture to the clouds and the sky. I added some foreground and middle ground details and started to sort out the reflections. I will add some tree details to the middle ground and to the high ground on the left. This is pretty close to the finish just some small things to make the difference.

Wife's Birthday
Yesterday was my wife Barbara's Birthday. We were running around at the beach and dinner so I am posting this a day late. She really likes the Day of the Dead motif so I usually do something along those lines for her. This was done in colored markers. So Happy Birthday Love.

Pine Tree Deer
A little bit of an experiment. I will probably redo this with watercolor instead of colored pens. I think I can get better color differentiation but not a bad study and worth working on until its perfect.

This is a pen sketch of a Swamp Cypress tree on a bank. More practice for the 10000 hours of mastery.

Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak
I think I have finished this one. I worked on the foliage and the tree trunks. I will leave this alone for a bit and see if I still think so. If you are ever in Colorado Springs go to the Garden of the gods, especially near sunset. This is a larger oil painting at 16in x 20in.

Black Hills South Dakota - round two
I worked on the Black Hills today, ironically making them a little less black. I started to add the pine trees and to further refine the foreground meadow. The trees will need some more work as will the meadow.

I am continuing the work on trees and experimenting with different styles. This ink drawing is done in a wood block style. I used Coptic ink pens.

Old Oak Trunk Sketch
This is a simple pencil sketch, just part of the evening ritual of incremental practice which over time leads to improvement. So enjoy my improvement.

Brush Pen Tree people
Not an original design, but a nice fun destress for the day. I used a Pental Brush Pen which has a felt tip which is brush like and makes thin and fat strokes.

Haystack sketch
A worked on this pencil sketch today after work, nothing about a little art therapy. Not a great sketch but better than work and much more enjoyable.

Black Hills South Dakota - Block-in
I started this today since I wanted to not be fussing with paintings already going. This is from a trip to South Dakota a few years back. Manny of my photos are very subtle which makes them a challenge. This is a mid-day scene too which is different than most things I try. I really liked the fading out of the grasses to a barely green grey. The fore ground will have Ponderosa Pine trees but I wanted to get the middle ground right before putting them in.

Pikes Peak from Gardens of the Gods
I worked on this oil painting today. It has a lot of subtle colors so it has been a challenge to complete. I have added detail all around but especially I have set in the foliage and tried to add and detail the branches and the trunks. I will need to continue to work on them and to add foliage highlights.
