Drawing work

The development of art skills, like anything else requires work on the basics and I have relooped back to work on basics.  This is basic skills from Andrew Loomis, an artist and instructor from the 1930s.  He is considered a classic instructor and a brilliant writer of art books.  So I am going to draw everything he recommends to get my skills better, when I am not painting.

Provision Company - clean up

Tonight I have cleaned up some of the problems with the start up of the Provision Company Restaurant in Southport, North Carolina.  I have improved my details, shadow, colors and the roof lines.  I added the lights and the wire to telephone pole.  I need to finish the sign and add the final details to this painting.  I may do it tomorrow or Monday.

Provisions Company Southport, North Carolina - block-in

I started this as a Plein Air but it was too complicated to complete as a plein air painting.  So I got the basic shapes and colors in and then I will layer on the proper details.  this is a walk-up restaurant dockside in Southport North Carolina.  It is called The Provisions Company, it is a great stop and well worth your time.

Oak Island Lighthouse - Plein Air

This is a small plein air oil painting I did from Caswell Beach on Oak Island, North Carolina.  The lighthouse is a fairly new one built in 1958 to replace a steel light tower which was the old light.  This one is a cement structure and helicopters put the light structure on top.  I am happy with the sky but I will probably do this larger and do more of the top detail.

Sanderling Painting

I have been on the road and then I was on a little vacation and I could not get this posted.  I went to a painting night with the wife Barb and her friend, Sharon.  We painted a scene of a Sanderling on the beach.  Above is mine.  I like it mostly, but I do want to rework the foam line were it meets the beach, otherwise it is not bad.

Wrist and Hand study update

I worked on this some more but I did not really get too much further along.  I repositioned some of the details and widened the wrist some.
