Rusty Anchor

I tweaked the Rusty Anchor with the addition of weld shadow and small adjustments to the rust and shadows.  I think this is pretty much done.

Stone Lantern Cherry Blossoms

I worked on this oil painting tonight.  I worked on fixing the drawing of the lantern details.  The rough in was way too rough.  I then worked on developing the blossoms.  I will need to finish the lantern and make a few corrections to the blossoms to get this one done.

Bear at the Great Salt Lake

My Son-in-Law's Dad had a great hunting dog named Bear.  I also had a dog named Bear years ago.  So I have been working on this painting of Bear out at the Hunting Club near the Great Salt Lake.   I have combined a few paintings to make a better composition.  Dogs make our lives better and they make use better.   I need to complete a few details on this.  The water needs work and the dog's vest needs some details.  The sky is close to what I want.

Downie Woodpecker sketch

This is a sketch of a Downie Woodpecker, a common but interesting little woodpecker.  We see a lot of this one in Maryland.  It likes to peck at our house and trees in the springtime.  I did this with pastel pencils and white chalk on grey toned paper.

Happy Valentines Day - Day of the Dead Kitten

Happy Valentines Day,  I always do a Day of the Dead themed card for the wife on Valentines Day, Birthday and Anniversaries.   Life is short and Day of the Dead is part of the reminder to enjoy what you have now.

Alamo - partially finished

I have returned from a trip to San Antonio.  I was not able to do as much art as I would like but I took some great photos and had a really great time.  Go to San Antonio if you can, especially in winter.  It was in the 80s every day and beat the snow and cold here in Maryland.   I did get started on this sketch of the Alamo Church and I will finish it tomorrow.

Mountain Goat study

I have seen these near Mt. Evans on the front range of Colorado.  I eventually want to paint some of these climbing studs.

Cezanne Study of Mary Casset

I found this study by Cezanne of the artist Mary Casset.  I really liked the simple lines so I did this as my version, not quite a good as the Master but I wanted to use it as practice.  Simple and elegant, great practice and something to think about when I get more time to work on figure studies.

Dall Sheep profile study

More of the chalk sketching.  This is a male Dall Sheep.  These are the wild sheep of the Canadian Rockies and Alaskan mountain ranges.  The white fur definitely blends in with the snowy mountain sides.

Bighorn Sheep side Study

More tonight of the White and Black Chalk studies, this is a side view of a Bighorn Sheep.  Lots of these out in the western part of the United States.  I have seen these in Colorado and Utah, but they are in a lot of the Western states with mountains and deserts.  Surprising a lot are in seen near the Interstate highways, so look on the cliffs if you are not the driver.
